Day of Filming

On Sunday 17th November, we did all of the filming for our trailer. There were 7 of us who went to Charli's house and we started the filming at around 12, after getting the script sorted and ensuring everyone knew what they were doing in what scene.

Charli started off doing the make up, and after the first had been done, me and Lois went to film that scene, while Charli did the next person. This worked out well because it was giving us more time to leave for the scenes later on in the trailer, in which we could all help with.
With each scene that we filmed, we all had a turn at trying it out, to see if we wanted to perhaps change the angle or the lighting within the frame. This helped to give us more footage to choose from so we can all make the final decision on which one we liked the most.

We started filming the outside 'dark' scenes at around half 5, but had to ensure that whatever was being filmed could be caught well on camera, because lack of lighting often made it difficult to see if the scene was successful or not. Some worked really well, and we used the torches on some of our phones to help light up the scene a little bit, while at the same time creating a scary atmosphere. Some scenes we had to film again or change the way in which they were filmed, to ensure that we were creating it as successfully as we had anticipated.

Ouija board design

This is our final design for our Ouija board. As seen in my last post, we have kept to the conventions of  a Ouija board while still adding our own design. We have kept the 'yes - no', the 'goodbye', the alphabet and the numbers from 0-9. The designs in the corner of our ouija board were completely our own idea and the right hand corner is showing our 'death' symbol. To create the old look, we used coffee and tea bags to stain the paper, to great effect.

Ouija boards

Here are some ouija boards which we have researched into for ideas on the design of our own. Some ouija boards are quite simple but others have a lot of detail to them. All ouija boards include the alphabet and the numbers from 0 - 9, with some of them including a 'yes' or 'no' and also a 'goodbye' at the bottom. As you can see, in the second picture, it doesn't say 'yes' or 'no' and only includes a 'bye' rather than 'goodbye', showing how they vary. By researching into how ouija boards are supposed to look, we came to the conclusion that as long as we included what was on most of them, the design was completely up to us.

Changes to Cast

After ensuring that everyone could attend the filming session, we came across some difficulties. As a result of the location we are filming in, being in Roydon, it proved difficult for Owen to get there, so because of this, we have had to remove his part from the trailer. As this would then make James the only other boy in our trailer, we realised that this may be slightly unbalanced regarding the people in the cast list, so we have also removed James.

We have replaced James' bedroom scene, by making Lizzie Marsh a new character within the story. If this does not seem to fit our narrative then we may choose to change this scene into something entirely different, which we will decide on the day, after testing out a couple of scenarios.

Also, Lauren is unable to make the day of filming, so we have unfortunately had to replace her part. We decided that instead of Lois' original scene where she is hiding behind a tree, we are going to take this out and instead, make her do the part that Lauren was originally supposed to do.

Schedule for Filming

The day we have chosen to film our movie trailer is 17/11/2013.
